So my friend and I were looking for a good japanese restaurant near the Berkeley area and we wanted to try it since I heard so much about their rolls and their rolls didn't dissapoint us and that was aboout IT!!!
My friend ordered the Lion king roll(baked sushi) and an Unagi roll and they were sooooo good. The rolls had the right amount of rice and alot of fish on top. Very good! We even ordered some more rolls so we could take home.
And that when all the good times ended. Whenever we would ask the guy what roll should we get he would always point to the MOST expensive rolls and say "get that", usually people would ask "oh what kind of fish do you like? Or what are you in the mood for?" but no, the owner pointed to the most expensive roll on the menu without any hesitation.
As for me, I didn't order any rolls- I ordered my fav japanese dish the Unaju Donburi, which is barbequed eel with rice. I've been to at least 30 Japanese restaurants in my life and ordered the Unaju Donburi at least five time from 5 different restaurants and it never came out so BURNED, but they called it "crispy". I even told them "What's wrong with this? Why is it so burned?!?" the owner looked shocked and said that's how it's cooked- it's barbeque and walked away. I'm like "WTF?!? I've ordered this five different times and it was never burned!" To add insult to injury it cost me 15 dollars to eat a burned eel.
To sum it all up, the rolls are the best in the bay, but their donburi SHOULD be passed up! I didn't get the chance to try the udon since I heard that's another one of their specialties and prolly will never because I highly doubt I'll be coming back hear again. I can't blame the service because there were only two servers along with two chefs and it was a friday.
Sushi: 5 stars
Donburi: 2 1/2 stars
Service: 3 stars(at least they had a smile on their face)
Restaurant: 5 stars (they are very clean!)
4 stars? Maybe too much for me, but my friend enjoyed it.
