When you are looking for a job, you need a real friend. I felt that everything was a bust when I was downsized in Feb. The first couple of weeks, I stayed home and pretended to do something. I was "networking", looking at ads, and waiting for the right time. Before long, I felt if I didn't do anything, I would be sitting in my living room for the next year.
I looked at yahoo for a resume writing service and found A Better Resume Service. The guy I met here seemed really interested in helping me out. I decided at the first meeting to get started, although he didn't put any pressure on me to make a purchase.
It took a couple of days for them to write a good resume. The finalization appointment was a breeze. I looked the resume over, checked for proper dates, titles and phone numbers, got my copies and I was ready to go.
There really wasn't more to it than that. When I got home, I felt as though a weight was lifted. I immediately applied for a dozen positions.
A couple of days later, a guy from downtown called me for an interview. My first thought was, this is too soon, but I went anyway. Well, I guess I shouldn't have expected everything instantly. When all was said and done, the money just wasn't in the offer. I figured as least I got experience interviewing. If I could get someone to offer me a job I didn't want, I would be ready when the right one came along.
That strategy worked. After a couple of interviews, either my luck changed or I got better at interviewing and found the perfect match.
I started a couple of weeks later. My job search wasn't the fastest thing, but I consider that I did well in this economy. I am going to do what I can to hold on to my current job.
In the end, I got the resume, and ultimately I got the job. I will be sending people here.
Great job!
