My wife 4 kids and my in laws made the pilgrimage to the once mighty city at the confluence of the 2 great rivers and had a very enjoyable meal at Shemwell's. The BBQ sandwiches were unique and unlike I had ever had having grown up in Tennessee. I loaded it down with Shemwell's sauce and it was quite a tasty treat. The sides were also quite unique and fresh.
The service was very cordial. Food took a little while to prepare but that was to be expected as it is all made fresh after it is ordered. All in all it was quite a memorable experience to dine at Shemwell's in the city of Cairo. The city I would have to call a great American paradox. A city set in the most beautiful and historical of settings that squandered it's future because of racial discord. We have all heard of a win-win situation. Cairo is a living example of a lose - lose situation.
