Sadly, Zippy's has closed. We are going to miss them.

This place looks like nothing special from the outside, but the moment you walk through the entrance, you know you're someplace special. Zippy's is simply charming and wonderful inside, and it does remind me of my childhood malt shop, although Zippy's is spotless, more roomy, and has better Ice Cream. There are baked goods beckoning from the display counter, and lots of places to sit and even stuff to keep the kids busy while they wait. The staff are friendly...and the ice cream...oh my goodness the ice cream. It's handmade and absolutely scrumptious. We tried the Cookie Monster ice cream and (for me, of course) my favorite, a chocolate malt. I now have my winner in the "Best Chocolate Malt in Delaware Contest", which I have been fantasizing about for the past 20 or so years. Thank You Zippy's.

Stand aside Baskin Robbins and Dairy Queen, there's a new ice cream bar in town, and if success were dependant on taste and quality, Zippy's, in my humble, ice-cream loving opinion, would be the ice-cream parlor champion of Kent County. No one even comes close.

Apart from the humble exterior (the building used to house a carpet store), Zippy's is a little hard to spot while driving north on Route 13. It's just before and right beside the McDonalds, north of Carrolls Corner... now who could miss that?
