I had the privaledge of living in the Deer Run community for almost 4 years. It was a wonderful experience for myself and my boys. We lived in a garden apartment in a small cul-de-sac with a total of seven units. Four on one side and three on the others. Three of the seven units had the same folks the entire time. Many folks have lived there for 15 - 20 years. One of my neighbors included. Several others turned over a few times. We were blessed with kind and helpful neighbors each time. Each apartment had it's own small yard area. We were allowed to plant flowers and make our patio area our own special place. Plus I cannot understate the convienience of walking in my own front door.
The apartment was very nice, featuring two full bathrooms. The laundry room was my favorite feature. With two boys I always had laundry to do. This was very convienient. Our apartment was very quiet. We could never hear voices through the walls. Occassionally I could hear a cupboard closing or if I was in the bathroom I could hear an exhaust fan running but for apartment living this was nothing.
The management team, headed by Debbie have always been outstanding and helpful and polite. They were even supportive during a very ugly divorce. The maintenence teams, headed by Dan are outstanding. In an emergency, dealing with regular wear and tear and even on a holiday weekend. I never had to wait more than a few hours or a day for their assistance. The entire team keeps a close watch on this nice little community and that ensures that it stays a clean, comfortable, safe place to live. That's significant to me!
Folks walk freely around Deer Run, little ones ride their bicycles, most are very friendly.
Winters can be a little rough. A big plow manages the main road that runs through the complex. The parking lot snow removal is mostly good. They have a man that works around the clock during snow storms clearing the parking lots. I never had trouble getting out. The Ice in the parking lot could be difficult but I just bought extra salt to throw around my car and on my own private walkway and it worked out fine. Living in Cleveland you have to be realistic, it's to be expected.
If I could suggest one thing to the corporation who owns Deer Run, we always wished they would put in a playground. This really is a large family complex / community. There are many children who would really benefit from a playground area. Both with the unhealthy weight issues facing children today and the smaller yard areas for playing in, a playground for convienence would have been appreciated and a family friendly resource for Deer Run. However, as a Twinsburg resident and with nearby Solon we are blessed to have many wonderful free community parks located within minutes.
I had to move due to the extensive physical needs of my son with profound disabilities but one day I could easily see myself comfortably living back at Deer Run again.
