Courthouse Pediatrics

Gloucester, VA
Pediatrics, General Practice Medicine

Review Date: 10/22/2009

I've been going to Courthouse Pediatrics for 5 years now. The relationship has been good and bad. I would probably try another practice, but I can't get in anywhere else locally.

The Dr.'s are very friendly and caring. The nurses are fantastic. The administrative staff are not always that friendly. If you are coming for routine check-ups, this is a wonderful place. However, for more serious conditions and issues, I've run in to numerous problems at this practice.

Once, my son injured his shoulder at school. I called to see if Dr. Fishburne could check it out and was told by the person on the phone to "go to the Emergency Room". When I explained that I didn't believe the injury warranted an emergency room visit or the cost of such visit, the lady said "then it doesn't warrant a visit to the doctor." I took my son to urgent care to have him checked out. He was in a sling for four weeks. I've had other concerns about some of the diagnoses of my children and the prescriptions they've been given.

I've often felt the administrative personnel are short staffed. I also feel that sometimes the doctors don't hear what I am trying to say, but instead they have made up their minds about what is wrong with my child before I am even done talking. Maybe they are that experienced, I don't know, but it does make me uncomfortable. Bottom line, if you visit this practice, do your research and be able to negotiate care for your children that you feel comfortable with.
