Flat rate is a rate established to insure that the contractor, not the customer, is well compensated. If our flat rate to replace your main breaker panel was $1,800 and it took us only half the time, you come out the loser. Flat rates are set to cover the absolute worse condition as to insure the contractor makes money. This may seem fair, but if your situation does not require a worse case scenario you should not have to pay for it. We invoice based on true job cost with a fair markup and tax.
