The quaint Medieval-style structure, built entirely of stone and driftwood, is the work of Stanley Smolak, a Polish immigrant. Influenced by the culture of Chippewa Indians, he built this inn in 1921 using a unique blend of Native American and European Medieval styles of architecture. Today, it is a heritage structure that especially attracts tourists. It has evolved as a Polish restaurant and pub that has gained much fame in popular television shows and print publications. The interiors too are quaint and charming with features like large fieldstone fireplaces and driftwood sculptures. Twisted roots and tree stumps have been used to decorate the floor, walls and ceiling, giving the place a mystical feel. The restaurant's extensive patio overlooking Lake Michigan is also a popular spot. Enjoy typical Polish dishes like Babcia's Potato Pancakes and the classic Pierogi, along with Polish honey wines and flavored vodkas.
