   MoreThe museum is dedicated towards the preservation of the history and culture of Independence, and in the promotion of arts and crafts, for the enjoyment of the community and its visitors. Spread over 22 rooms in an old Post Office/Federal Building, the museum is home to antiques, artwork and historical artifacts. Each exhibit tells a story of the early settlers and their lifestyles, i.e.  a 1850s barber shop, old general store, blacksmith shop, bedroom, dining room, parlor, kitchen, toy room, antique tools, 1869 furnished log cabin, a large military display, shoe store, fire department and more. Furthermore, visitors will also get a glimpse of the 'history of the oil industry', 'Indian Culture collection and various historical artifacts', antique china, sculptures and other rare collections. All round the year the museum hosts various other activities like the quilt fairs, arts and craft fairs, and numerous social events.
