New Braunfels Utilities was established in 1942 when the City Commission of New Braunfels purchased the electric transmission and distribution system from the Public Service Company of San Antonio. In 1959, the city of New Braunfels assigned operations of the water and sewer systems to NBU. The company employs more than 325 people supporting electric, water, and wastewater services. The NBU Electric System consists of more than 624 miles of overhead lines and 346 miles of underground distribution lines.
