God's elect are safe and secure in the mighty grip of God's sovereign hand. Our focus is to do the will of the Father by exalting Christ in the preaching of the gospel, because this is how God has chosen to call out His people. "...It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe (1Cor 1:21)." Faith is not of man, but it is the gift of God. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom 10:17). Lost, unregenerate men cannot simply decide to be saved. Man does not have a free will. Only God's will is supreme, irresistible and free. A man must be born again by the will of God, through the word of God, and this is purely by God's mercy that was given us in Christ before the world began. God saves sinners on purpose! "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour...(Tit 3:5-6)" It is God alone "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began...(2 Tim 1:9)" The only hope for poor, needy, helpless sinners is the sovereign free grace of God in Christ.
