   MoreMethodologyWestside Montessori School is focused on creating an environment where respect and curiosity are nourished.  Children this age learn by doing so our schoolhouse is organized to promote exploration and enable self-reliance.  There are sensorial materials that encourage them to investigate the environment and practical life materials which develop skills needed in the real world like opening, closing, pouring, zipping and practicing patience.   The Montessori methodology inspires a love of learning.  The morning begins with the children coming together in a circle, greeting their friends then talking about plan for the day and often singing, then it is time to do some work followed by unstructured play.  At first you may be surprised by the naturalistic approach to the decor and the lack of primary colors on the walls.   Everything is real, no plastic facsimiles, and sized just right for little hands.  We are proud of the diverse backgrounds that our children and teachers bring to the program.  Fun events like the Global Fair and weekly projects focused on other countries provided them with tools to investigate the world around them.
