They are soaked for 2 hours in a fungicidal fluid to kill all germs and bacteria. This method is preferred over the UV light method because the UV light only sanitizes the part of the tool that it touches whereas the liquid gets into every nook and cranny of the tool. UV light sterilizers should contain tools without pouches. Tools should only be placed in pouches to be sterilized when placed in autoclaves. Otherwise, the UV light cannot thoroughly reach the tool for proper sanitization. Most pouches contain some sort of color changing indicator on the white portion of the pouch to indicate the completion of sterilization in an autoclave. If you look closely at a pouch that was placed in a UV sterilizer, you will see that the indicator did not change color. Less
