   MoreBuilt in 1921, this magnificent Gothic Revival style building is home to the historic Wheat Street Baptist Church, located just a short distance away from the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site. Established in 1869 by a group of parishioners from the First Baptist Church, Wheat Street has come to be known for its social conscience and contribution to the upliftment of the African Americans of Atlanta. Having played an important role during the Civil Rights Movement, the church continues to strive for social justice and supports a variety of social outreach programs. As a warm, welcoming and vibrant place of worship, services at the church revolve around the exaltation and praise of God through music, giving thanks for his many gifts and finding hope in the teachings of the Bible. Through participation in church ministries, Bible study and spiritual guidance, the Wheat Street Baptist Church seeks to guide its members to spiritual maturity.
