She has over a decade of experience supporting hundreds of high school and college students as they define and work toward their academic, career, and personal goals. She uses appreciative inquiry and motivational interviewing techniques to challenge and support students as they investigate their values, goals, and actions. Melissa helps students tell their stories by asking questions, promoting self-reflection, and helping students make connections between their past, present, and future. She wants her students to understand themselves better in order to make decisions that are aligned with who they are and what they want. Melissa is a former Assistant Dean of Transfer Students at Rutgers University, where she also advised students on major and course selection and taught classes related to mentoring, college access, and successfully transitioning to college. At Princeton University, Melissa read and rated approximately 2,000 undergraduate applications over three years. She worked as a college advisor for two nonprofits and interviewed applicants for Brown University.
