Best SF Iyengar Yoga: I have been studying with David Nelson at Yoga Garden for about 3 years. I have been studying mostly Iyengar yoga on and off for 15 years. I've seen lots of teachers and David Nelson is one of the best.

David is energetic, precise and articulate. He brings great depth of knowledge to both the asanas and the philosophy of yoga. He generally runs a brisk class that does not get bogged down in too much talking. His pacing is excellent and he works hard to carry themes across multiple classes - not an easy task in the drop-in format.

I have taken a few classes here and there with other teachers at Yoga Garden and have never had a disappointing experience.

The school is clean and inviting and run efficiently. And it's always nice to walk through the small garden.

Changed my life, mind body and spirit: After trying places like Yoga Tree, Yoga Garden was an entirely different experience. Yoga Garden really comes from the heart. How often do you find a Yoga studio run by a married couple who have found a way to combine their lives and work to form a real community?

Marisa Toriginno and David Nelson are practitioners and teachers of Iyengar Yoga. B.K.S. Iyengar is 87 and lives in a small poor villiage in India. His recent trip to SF and talk at the Davies Syphony Hall generated close to $100,000 from the people who attended, money which went straight to funding needed services such as a girls school and hospital in his home villiage.

Yoga Garden teachers are not far removed from the source and some make the voyage to India to train with the master himself. The richness and attention to detail of the practice because of this strong connection is one of the things that sets Yoga Garden apart.

The other real difference is Yoga Garden's pre- and post-natal practice. This is how I was originally introduced to the studio; through my husband who signed me up for the prenatal classes prior to the birth of my second child. I had tried the Yoga Garden's prenatal classes, but it doesn't compare.

Marisa leads the pre and post natal practice, which focuses on the women and their babies. It's all about connecting with your baby through yoga. She also creates a community of mothers through a buddy system and by documenting and sharing birth stories of her students (with their permission of course).

The Yoga Garden studio has changed my life for the better and I find myself coming to more and more classes all the time.

Excellent studio for personalized yoga experience: I have been a member of Yoga Garden for over 5 years. Before settling on this studio, I tried several other studios in the Bay Area and found Yoga Garden to offer the most individualized and personalized classes. Instructors are all well-versed in the Iyngar style of yoga and focus on making sure students engage in correct form. I think this is so important in making sure not to incur any injuries and did not find that at any other studio I visited. I am in better shape than ever after going to Yoga Garden 2-3 days a week. Strength and alignment are also stressed.
