The Move Logistics Inc. team using dollies in front of a company truck
The Move Logistics team. ((Move Logistics Inc.))

During its 12 years in business, Move Logistics has garnered near-perfect customer ratings across Google, Yelp and Angi in over hundreds of reviews. The company is locally owned, operating two locations in the San Antonio area, with one in the city and another located to the northwest in Boerne, Texas. It's also a family business, with co-owner Marc Abrams having more than 35 years of experience in the moving industry.

Move Logistics bills itself as a "one-stop-shop" for people moving from around San Antonio, and it offers a suite of services. That includes residential and local moves, but the company is also licensed to handle long-distance moves around Texas and across state lines. It offers specialized senior citizen moves and full packing services and can move specialized items.

When we spoke with Move Logistics, its agent quoted us a rate of $225 per hour for a three-person crew, which is a bit higher than most others in the area. The company requires a two-hour minimum for each job, so you'll pay at least $450 for labor. Additional time is billed in 15-minute increments, so you won't pay for more time than you need.

We had Move Logistics come over to unload our truck from a 1,000 mile self-move. Our team of two very professional movers was on time — to the second! — and got right to work. They were quick, efficient and incredibly helpful. They made sure to stick around until we had everything where we wanted it. They even helped us track down parts of a table that the movers from another company did a poor job packing and had fallen apart. Truly an excellent company and great to work with. — Chris Mospaw, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Move Logistics requires a $100 nonrefundable deposit to secure your move date. Additionally, it charges a separate truck fee, which our agent quoted at $225. The agent also informed us that rates can fluctuate based on how far out you book your move, with cheaper rates the earlier you book.

Beyond its moving services, Move Logistics offers climate-controlled and warehouse storage if you need to store belongings during your move. It operates a 14,000-square-foot storage facility with several sizes of storage units and warehouse sections available. It's also covered by 24-hour surveillance and doesn't require monthly contracts.

The company's white glove moving service handles delicate items with care. These include everything from artwork and taxidermy to gun safes and pianos. The service can cost extra, especially for custom crating, but it's worth it if you need valuable items to be transported safely.

The Einstein Moving Co. San Antonio team posing for a photo
The Einstein Moving Co. San Antonio team. ((Einstein Moving Co.))

Einstein Moving Co. was started in 2012 by childhood friends Paul Morin and Cameron Brown. The two wanted to start a company after graduating from Texas A&M University and both had ideas about how to improve the moving industry. Over the past 12 years, the two expanded the company to encompass four major cities around Texas and one in Florida.

The main draw of Einstein Moving Co. is its innovative online estimate tool, which gives you a cost estimate and the option to book with a little information and in a few minutes. Once you enter your information, the tool breaks down key price factors so you're guaranteed to avoid any hidden fees. The quote includes everything that goes into its hourly rate, information on its minimum job time and if you'll have to pay travel fees.

Einstein charges $80 per mover per hour for its work, with a 2.5-hour minimum. You can expect to pay $240 per hour for three movers, or $160 per hour for a smaller two-person job. With the 2.5-hour minimum, you'll spend at least $520 for three movers and $400 for two. No deposit is required.

Great service, excellent communication. The movers were professionals as opposed to other companies I've used in the past. There was a minor issue that was promptly addressed. Will definitely be using this company for my next move. —Aaron Dilday, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Beyond the minimum hour commitment, Einstein charges in 15-minute increments. You don't have to pay travel fees if you're within a 10- to 15-mile radius of an Einstein location, but the company charges a travel fee to cover gas and truck costs if your move takes you outside that range. You're billed separately for packing supplies as well, if you need them.

Einstein handles local residential, apartment and office moves. You can also hire the company for labor-only packing services or storage unit moves. Unfortunately, Einstein doesn't do interstate moves, but it will move you anywhere within Texas.

Einstein Moving Co. movers are all full employees who undergo background checks and thorough training. Prior to your move, Einstein sends you an email to introduce you to each member of your moving team. If your movers are late, Einstein says you'll receive an instant discount that increases with the delay.

Evolution Moving Company quoted us $210 per hour for a team of three movers. That fee includes the truck and any materials used to protect your belongings. There's a two-hour minimum, but in our experience anything larger than a small apartment move takes longer than that.

Absolutely amazing!!! We had four guys and two trucks move us out of two storage units and into our house. It was already 80* at 9 am when they arrived and hustled through 6.5 hours of back breaking labor with a great sense of humor and smiles on their faces. 100% recommend Evolution!! — Rachel Barrow, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Evolution Moving Company charges a nonrefundable deposit equal to one hour of your move cost to secure your desired date. For long-distance moves, the deposit is $500 per truck. Evolution also charges an additional travel fee of $4 per mile traveled.

The moving process with Evolution starts with an over-the-phone quote to give you a ballpark figure for your move. The company then sends someone to your home for an in-person estimate, providing a custom plan for each move. The price provided on that day is the price you pay, and the company says it never includes surprise fees.

This applies to interstate moves as well. Evolution says it will give you a complete estimate before you move, with no hidden fees. The company also provides a guaranteed arrival time so you can plan effectively.

A 3 Men Movers truck. ((3-Men Movers))

Formed in 1985, 3 Men Movers is the brainchild of founder John Fischer, who started the company with a truck and a small crew. The company now covers moves in cities around Texas, including San Antonio and its surrounding area, Houston, Dallas, Austin and Fort Worth.

3 Men Movers says it handles your items as if they are its own. They always use floor runners to protect your home from equipment damage, and you can expect all large items to be protected with blankets and plastic wrap. If you need packing services, the company handles that too, taking special care with fragile items.

The mover quoted us a rate of $209 per hour for a team of three movers, which includes all taxes and credit card fees. While 3 Men Movers doesn't charge for fuel or flights of stairs, it includes a travel fee based on the mileage of your move.

CJ and team have been great! Very easy going, friendly, helpful, and respectful. This is my 5th move with 3 Men Movers and I will continue using them and recommend you do as well. There is enough hassle around moving, nothing wrong with getting some professional help. And they are fast! — Isabel Esparza, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

There is a two-hour minimum for all moves, so you'll pay at least $418. In our experience, nearly any house move takes more than two hours, so the minimum shouldn't be an issue for most people. 3 Men Movers charges a $25 deposit to secure your move date, and the deposit is refundable as long as you cancel more than 24 hours in advance of your move.

The majority of 3 Men Movers' jobs are within Texas, but it can also handle interstate moves. However, if you're moving cross-country, 3 Men suggests going with a different mover. The company tries to stay competitive on pricing for neighboring states but acknowledges that national carriers will likely be able to provide better rates for long-distance moves.

3 Men Movers is BBB accredited with an A+ rating and 16 registered complaints in the past three years, which is higher than other companies on this list. These guys are awesome and extremely honest! They take care of your furniture as their own. Greg was the team lead and he explained me the whole process, they are extremely fast. But what impressed me the most is their honesty, some jewelry fell from my wife’s drawer and they picked it up and returned it to us. They did my 3 bedroom house in about 3 hours. I was impressed how fast they did it! I would highly recommend them to anyone! — Humberto Molina, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Central Transportation Systems' San Antonio team. ((Central Transportation Systems))

Founded in 1925, Central Transportation Systems has been in the moving game for nearly 100 years. During that time, the company has remained family-owned and expanded to locations around Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, El Paso and Waco, tallying hundreds of positive reviews across Google, Angi and Yelp.

Central Transportation Systems offers a range of services, including local and intrastate moves around Texas, as well as long-distance and even international moves. Central Transportation Systems partners with United Van Lines for logistics support with international services.

The support agent we spoke with at Central Transportation Systems quoted $210 per hour for a crew of three people. That's right around the middle of the range for companies on this list. Unfortunately, Central Transportation Systems was difficult for us to reach for further information.

While we got a ballpark rate for three movers on our initial call, the agent wanted to forward us to someone who wasn't available for further questions. Our calls over the following days went to voicemail, and we still haven't received a callback to confirm information about deposits or hour minimums at the time of this writing. Your experience may vary, but you'll want to leave adequate time to get a quote.

Difficulties aside, the company says it provides free, in-person estimates to give each move a custom touch. It also offers full packing services, though its movers will transport items you pack yourself. It also takes standard precautions, like padding and plastic wrapping large items, to protect them from damage. And many customers left rave reviews on sites like Google and Yelp.

Jane, Alice, and Josie R. were absolutely great! They took great care of our belongings while they packed it, were extremely communicative, and were highly expeditious. Definitely one of the best experiences we’ve had in 8+ moves! Highly recommend! — JJ, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

One notable service provided by Central Transportation Systems is custom crating. If you have a delicate family heirloom or other valuable items to move, the company can build a custom crate to protect them during your move. This service will cost extra, but it's not something you get with every mover.

Another somewhat unusual service offered is specialized military moves. Headquartered in El Paso, the company isn't far from Fort Bliss, and it's used to handling military moves. It also offers Department of Defense-approved moving services for international moves. This means Central Transportation Systems has experience working with the deadlines and paperwork required for military moves.

Movers of San Antonio trucks. (Movers of San Antonio)

Movers of San Antonio has more than 15 years of experience operating in the San Antonio area, covering both local and statewide moves. The company's main aim is to be an affordable moving option, prominently advertising its $99 per hour rate. There are a couple of caveats, however.

If your move falls between Monday and Thursday, you get the $99 hourly rate for two movers. Adding an additional mover increases that rate to $150 per hour. Movers of San Antonio is one of the cheapest movers in the area for weekday moves, but the costs increase on weekends.

Moves on Friday through Sunday cost $10 more per hour, so a three-person runs you $160 hourly. No deposit is required, but a $50 nonrefundable travel fee is due when you sign your agreement, which covers the costs of fuel and moving equipment.

Shane and Mario were absolutely wonderful movers! They worked hard and quick, and finished moving all my furniture from my third floor apartment to my two-story house in just under 3 hours! 🎉 They also shrink wrapped the main furniture pieces and were very careful with all of it. Even with the best preparation, moving is almost always stressful. It can be time-consuming to call multiple companies for quotes and research their reputations. We aimed to absorb a large part of that frustration for you with our list, but no one company will be the right fit for every situation.

As you evaluate which moving company is the best for you, keep some key factors in mind. Your budget is probably the most important, and you'll want to carefully consider each company's hourly rates and additional fees. If cost is your main concern, Camouflage Moving Service offers the best value of the companies on our list.

Another major factor is availability. Most of the companies we spoke with said the summer months are their busiest time, along with the beginning of each month and the weekends. If you can be flexible with your move date, you'll have a much easier time securing your preferred company. However, we've included 10 companies (and three honorable mentions) on our list, so you have several alternatives to choose from. And if you must move at the last minute, Camouflage Moving Service should be able to help.

Overall, the best moving company in San Antonio is Move Logistics. The company offers a huge range of services, billing itself as a "one-stop-shop" for anything you need while moving. Its large storage facility is a great place to store your belongings if you're downsizing or waiting for a home purchase to close.

Move Logistics' rates are high compared with most of the other companies on this list, but $225 per hour for three movers is reasonable for the service you'll get. The company has maintained near-perfect ratings across hundreds of reviews on Google, Yelp and Angi. Its A+ BBB certification also means you're dealing with a reputable company.

When you're calling around to different companies for ballpark estimates, most ask for the same or similar types of information. Always have the addresses and ZIP codes ready for both sides of your move. This helps the company determine travel fees.

Basic facts about your home size are also useful. Be ready to provide the number of bedrooms along with the square footage. This allows the company to estimate the size of the truck and moving team required and provide an idea of how long the move will take.

Finally, make a list of large furniture items, like beds and dressers, you plan to move. Some companies ask for this information during phone estimates to help provide a more accurate price. Also note any large, special items like pool tables, antiques and gun safes, as companies typically charge an extra fee to move them.

When packing and storing your belongings in San Antonio, protect them from exposure to heat and humidity. Keep your boxes in a dry, cool place before your move, and opt for climate-controlled storage where possible.

If your move involves a condo or apartment building, you may be required to reserve an elevator during the day and time of your move. Ask your building manager about this in advance of your moving day. Coordinate your reservation times with your moving company so you don't run into any snags.

As an individual, you do not need a license to move within San Antonio and its surrounding areas. However, your moving company must be licensed to operate under Texas Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.

You may also require a parking permit from the city of San Antonio if you need to use a city parking space for loading and unloading. Each space costs $30 per day. You can find more information at the San Antonio Public Works website. For more details, read our complete guide to moving licenses and permits in Texas.

Tipping is never required for moving companies, but it is a nice gesture if your movers go above and beyond. Typically, it's recommended to tip between 10% and 20% of the total moving cost. Some companies will allow you to add a tip to the final bill, but you can also split your tip between each person on your moving team individually. Check our guide to tipping your movers for more pointers.
