Two Patriot Moving & Storage employees in blue shirts lift a wood-and-glass hutch during a move.
Two Patriot Moving & Storage employees lift a cabinet during a move ((Patriot Moving & Storage))

Across hundreds of customer reviews, Patriot Moving & Storage has maintained perfect scores on both Google and Yelp, making it the highest-rated moving company on this list. Based just south of West Palm Beach in Lantana, FL, Patriot offers full-service packing and moving in the Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami areas. It can also store your items in a secure facility.

Patriot is fully licensed and insured for local moves around West Palm Beach and the surrounding area. The process begins with a free estimate, and you can schedule same-day moves in some cases.

We spoke with Michael Hudson, owner of Patriot Moving & Storage, who said it's important to provide a "real, honest estimate" with a visit to your home before the move. "I've worked with a lot of these companies, and I know the game," he said, alluding to potential surprise fees from competitors.

For pricing, Hudson said Patriot bases estimates on an hourly rate of $150 for two movers and $195 for three. There's a two-hour minimum and an extra charge for fuel and materials. Hudson said this is $125 for moves within Palm Beach County and $175 for moves outside the area.

Mike and Doug and their team from Patriot moving were some of the best I have ever seen. They worked flexibly with my schedule, were there on time and packed and moved everything perfectly. Even when my closing on my home was delayed, they stored all of my belongings and never made me feel stressed about what my options were. They simply just said don’t worry, we will take care of it! I could not recommend these guys enough for all of your moving needs. Thank you gentlemen! - Ryan Nowicki, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Patriot charges a deposit, but the amount depends on the estimated cost of your move. Typically, Hudson said, he'll quote a price range for your move and the deposit is equal to half the cost of the lowest part of that range. This makes the deposit amount higher than other companies on this list that use a flat fee or a small percentage of the estimate.

All Patriot employees are full-time workers whom Hudson says he's been working with for three to four years in most cases. This means you'll avoid the day laborers some other companies hire, and you can be sure that the employees are well-trained and professional.

You can contact Patriot Moving & Storage by calling 561-345-4977 or visiting its website to schedule a free estimate. All Patriot Moving & Storage employees receive a background check.

A Helping Hands Moving truck
A Helping Hands Moving truck ((Helping Hands Moving & Labor))

Based in Delray Beach, FL, Helping Hands Moving is a close second on this list due to its hundreds of positive reviews across Google, Yelp, and Angi. The company covers local moves throughout South Florida in the Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade County areas. We spoke with Dennis Cavagnaro, owner of Helping Hands Moving, who said all of its movers are full-time employees who are screened with background checks and drug testing.

Helping Hands covers everything involved in your move or you can hire its movers only to load and unload your truck. The company also offers junk removal for furniture, appliances, scrap metal, and more. You can hire Helping Hands for labor-only services like delivering furniture or moving it around your home. You'll want to keep track of specialty items like pool tables and pianos, as those are priced differently.

For moving services, Helping Hands' estimates were high compared to other companies on this list. It charges a base of $399 for three movers at a two-hour minimum, then $190 per additional hour. Four movers cost a base of $499 for a two-hour minimum, then $225 per hour.

Our close friends used Helping Hands Moving and referred them to us, and I understand why. Our 4 man crew were fantastic. Hard-working, experienced, careful and all gentlemen. We enjoyed their company! Dennis keeps the business-end very simple and there were absolutely no surprises. Just honest, hard-working people. - Daniel Deckman, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Beyond the labor fees, Helping Hands charges a $75 travel fee to cover the cost of the truck and gas. The company does not require a deposit for services. That's in contrast to nearly every other company on this list.

When we spoke with Cavagnaro he said the summer is his company's busy season. If you want to schedule services then, you'll need two- or three-weeks' notice to ensure you can secure your desired date. If you have a lower quote from another company, Helping Hands will work with you to potentially accommodate a lower rate.

Helping Hands Moving LLC is Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited with an A+ rating and only one registered complaint in the last three years. It has also been in business for 12 years and has plenty of experience.

A team of College Hunks movers stand in front of a moving truck
A team of College Hunks movers stand in front of a moving truck ((College Hunks Moving))

Established in 2003, College Hunks started out as a summer side gig for cofounders Omar Soliman and Nick Friedman during college. What began as a simple junk-hauling business is now a national moving service that has grown to more than 200 locations around the U.S. and Canada. That national reach makes College Hunks a great option for interstate moves.

The location servicing West Palm Beach and Broward County is based in Lake Worth, FL, and handles everything from local residential moves to commercial moving and beyond. The company offers free estimates for full-service moves, as well as packing services and general labor jobs like home staging. Pricing is hourly, but it can vary based on distance and location.

Our quotes for the West Palm Beach area ranged between $179 to $219 per hour for a three-person crew. That rate starts when the movers pick up the first box in your home and ends when the final box is placed at your destination. College Hunks also quoted an additional truck travel fee of $199, which includes the distance from the company's office to the starting destination and then to the final destination.

Moves require a two-hour minimum, and every hour after that is billed in 15-minute increments. College Hunks also requires a deposit of $49. The deposit is fully refundable as long as you cancel at least five days before your move.

Ron and DJ were the best. Professional, friendly, courteous, fast and efficient. They kept me updated on arrival and did a great job with my furniture removal. Truly made my moving experience stress free. Thank you, Hunks. I will be using you again! - Michell N., Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

College Hunks was incredibly quick with our estimate, calling within five minutes of us submitting the online form. The whole process took about 10 minutes to nail down details, such as addresses, the number of rooms, and large items for the move. The representative was friendly and did a great job explaining the costs associated with the service.

While its national reach is a strength, College Hunks may not provide the personal touches of some local companies. Still, because of its size, you may be able to schedule services on shorter notice. When we spoke with a representative, they said they prefer two days' notice.

If you want to clear out some belongings during your move, College Hunks can take care of your junk, too. The company partners with local charities and nonprofits to arrange donations of appliances, electronics, and furniture. If something can't be donated, they'll recycle it responsibly.

College Hunks is BBB accredited with an A- rating, though it has had 13 registered complaints in the last three years, which is higher than most others on this list. All College Hunks employees receive background checks.

A-1 Moving and Storage team members stand in front of a company moving truck
A-1 Moving and Storage team members stand in front of a company moving truck ((A-1 Moving & Storage))

From what started in 1972 as a "small, one truck operation with a tiny garage," A-1 Moving & Storage has grown to a 45,000 square foot facility run out of Jupiter, FL. All the while, A-1 remained a family business, starting with its founders Lou and Jean Klause and eventually being passed on to their son Tom, the president of A-1 since 1986. The company covers local moves in the greater Palm Beach County area and state-wide moves across Florida.

The process for a local move in West Palm Beach starts with a free, on-location estimate from an A-1 representative. From there, the company can help plan and coordinate your move based on your needs. Typical pricing for a move from A-1 Moving & Storage runs $150 per hour for two movers and $200 per hour for three.

A major downside of A-1's pricing is that it requires a five-hour minimum, which is higher than the minimums we were quoted for every other company on this list. It also adds another hour to the bill to cover travel. That means, at minimum, you'll pay between $900 and $1,200 depending on whether you require two or three movers.

The bright side is that A-1 doesn't require a deposit, unlike most other moving companies. During busy seasons, such as the summer, A-1 recommends three-weeks' notice to schedule your move.

Simply the best moving company around. Total professionals all the way around. In addition to being great movers, they also give back to the community. On their dime and with their trucks they have made several deliveries of food to local non-profits in need. I love this company for doing what is right. - Brad Westover, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

A-1 offers access to climate-controlled trailers through Atlas Van Lines. If you have delicate or sensitive belongings that must be kept in specific conditions, this option can keep them safe during your move. That's in addition to the specialty service for fragile items like pianos or grandfather clocks.

For long-distance moves, A-1 is registered as an Atlas Van Lines agent, which gives it a network of other agents across the country. A-1 handles the planning and packing of your home or apartment in West Palm Beach, then Atlas transports your items to be unloaded by another Atlas agent at your destination.

A-1 Moving & Storage is BBB accredited with an A+ rating with only one complaint over the last three years. All A-1 Moving & Storage employees receive background checks. You can reach A-1 Moving & Storage at 561-625-0600 or by visiting its website for a free quote.

A Drop-a-Truck moving truck sits parked next to a curb
A Drop-a-Truck moving truck sits parked next to a curb ((Drop-a-truck))

Started more than seven years ago, Drop-a-Truck offers local moving services in West Palm Beach and the surrounding area. While conventional home moves are the company's main business, it's also one of the few companies in the area to advertise specialized services for senior and assisted living moves, making it the best moving company on our list for senior citizens. If you have junk to get rid of, Drop-a-Truck offers removal services to clear out unwanted items.

We spoke with Drop-a-Truck moving support representative Alex Manjarrez, who emphasized the company does everything it can to "take the stress out of your move." That includes a thorough pre-move inspection of your items, frequent updates from the crew regarding arrival times and delays, and extra care for delicate items.

I cannot say enough good things about my move today. The movers were on time, friendly, and took care of all my stuff as if it were their own and they were VERY REASONABLE compared to quite a few others that I got quotes from. If you need a good mover look no further, these are your guys. Everything looks great. - Denise Hand, Google reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Drop-a-Truck quoted us $189 per hour for a three-person crew and $150 per hour for two people. The company also requires a $100 deposit, and jobs require a three-hour minimum, after which you're charged in 15-minute increments.

For a three-bedroom home move, Drop-a-Truck estimates it would take seven hours with a three-person crew. The total price for labor and the truck came to $1,323 with an added fee of $236 for gas, travel, and basic materials, for a total of $1,559.

Drop-a-Truck was surprisingly quick to quote us a price. We received a call from the company within a couple of hours after submitting a request, and it only took a few more minutes to confirm details for the quote total.

One of Brandon Transfer & Storage's moving trucks sits outside a building
One of Brandon Transfer & Storage's moving trucks sits outside a building ((Brandon Transfer & Storage))

Brandon Transfer & Storage is one of the oldest moving companies in Florida. Getting its start in 1919, the company has been a family-run operation for more than 100 years. Throughout that time, it expanded operations to more than 28 metros around the state.

Local moves in the West Palm Beach area start with a custom plan designed by a Brandon Transfer & Storage coordinator. They offer full house moves and smaller moves like transferring a piano or pool table from one location to another, and Brandon Transfer & Storage can help seniors move into an assisted living facility.

The company quoted us a rate of $235 per hour for three movers and a truck. That's the second-highest hourly rate we received from any company on this list. According to the agent we spoke with, no minimum number of hours is required.

In contrast with other companies in the area that charge a flat rate for a deposit, Brandon Transfer & Storage charges a fee of 3% of your estimate to reserve your moving date. For a move estimated to cost $2,500, you'll pay a deposit of $75. That's within the standard range of flat-fee deposits we've seen from other companies.

Everyone connected to Brandon transfer was exceptional. Their attitude of service was on point and I could feel their empathy for the situation I was in. They made the move so much easier than I thought! I would recommend this company to anyone. - Douglas Higgins, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

While the company will help coordinate your move and pack your belongings, Allied will be responsible for moving your stuff across state lines and eventually unpacking it. Brooks Moving & Hauling team next to two of the company's moving trucks ((Brooks Moving & Hauling))

With offices located around Florida, Brooks Moving & Hauling specializes in local and long-distance moves within the state. The company launched in 2016, making it one of the younger entries on our list, though it still has hundreds of positive reviews across Google, Yelp, and Angi.

Brooks has an office in West Palm, making setting up a local move incredibly quick and simple. Like every other company on this list, you start with a free estimate, and Brooks follows up with a customized moving plan and packing services. Once Brooks loads and transports your belongings to your new home, they offer unpacking services and can assist in arranging your furniture.

Brooks Moving and Hauling did an amazing job yesterday on the move!!! they took care of everything did everything perfectly and I hope that they will get noticed further for their hard work and professionalism; ask for Dupson, Gabe and DAVID. They did a great job!! see the blue carpet treatment they gave us in the video below. John Hamilton the head of customer service told me that they all have training and it really shows!!! Bravo to Brooks Moving and Hauling you are the best!!! - Arturo Oliva, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Like other movers in the West Palm Beach area, Brooks charges by the hour for its moving services. For a three-person crew, Brooks quoted us $199 per hour with a two-hour minimum. In addition to labor, Brooks charges an hour's fee to cover truck travel costs, so you're essentially starting with a three-hour minimum after the labor and truck fees are combined.

Any additional work after the minimum is charged in 15-minute increments. There's also a $100 deposit required to lock in your quote and move date, though you can cancel and receive a refund if you do so with more than five days' notice.

We were impressed with the care Brooks Moving & Hauling puts into moving your items and communicating their processes. Brooks was the only company that specifically mentioned using floor runners to avoid damaging your floors with their equipment, for example. The company's trucks also feature lift gates to ensure speedy and gentle loading and unloading.

America's Family Moving & Storage opened in 2012. The family-owned company is based in Boca Raton, but it operates throughout Florida, including in West Palm Beach. Though it's young compared to some of the other movers on this list, it has a great reputation and hundreds of positive reviews across Google and Yelp.

For moves in the West Palm Beach area, you can get a free in-home estimate, followed by full-service packing, loading, transportation, and unpacking at your destination. When we contacted them, a company representative quoted us a price of $165 per hour for a team of three movers, which is 34% cheaper than the most expensive option on this list. That makes America's Family our pick for best moving company for budget-conscious consumers.

The company requires a three-hour minimum, which is higher than the two-hour minimum of some other companies on this list. Additionally, America's Family Moving & Storage charges a fuel fee based on the distance traveled, along with a $70 deposit. The company also quoted us a truck fee of another $165 for a 26-foot truck.

Ian and Rodrigo were beyond amazing! They were very communicative throughout the entire process and moved very efficiently. They paid attention to detail and were extremely careful with my belongings. They moved me in record time from an upstairs apartment to a 2 story house and I couldn’t be happier with their service! I 100% recommend this company as they are honest and very hardworking! - Hannah Johnson, Google Reviews (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

The company representative we spoke to was friendly and accommodating while putting together our estimate. He clarified several particulars, including whether we had any special items to move, what large furniture we had in each room, and whether we required packing services. The representative also said they could store any items in their climate-controlled units, with three sizes available.

America's Family Moving & Storage is licensed to operate in Florida and across state lines. If you're moving out of state, estimates are calculated based on the weight and volume of your belongings, along with the distance of the move. Additional services, such as packing and storage, add to this cost.

After starting in Lansing, Mich., in the early 1980s, Two Men and a Truck has grown to more than 350 locations, mostly across North America but also in Ireland and the U.K. With that expansion, the company began to offer junk removal and storage services. However, local moving is still its main focus with a fleet of more than 3,000 trucks.

Two Men and a Truck charges by the hour and requires a 20% deposit at booking. The base labor rate is $230 per hour for three men and a 26-foot truck for moves between Monday and Wednesday. The company charges a higher rate of $250 per hour on "weekends," which it defines as Thursday through Saturday.

Our quote included a local move for a three-bedroom house, without packing services, which was estimated to take eight-and-a-half hours from start to finish for a total of $2,125 in labor and travel time. If you require packing services, that will add additional time at the hourly rate. For this particular move, Two Men and a Truck estimated packing would add between $1,400 and $1,650.

"Total travel time starts from our warehouse," Thomas told us. "If the move is completed in less time than the estimate you are only billed for the actual time used."

Two Men and a Truck offers climate-controlled storage, but its warehouse is currently closed for renovations. Smith says that the company works with other local storage companies that can offer a discount if you need storage during your move.

The company prefers at least three to four days' notice between booking and the move date. Smith says the first of the month is usually the company's busiest time, however, so additional time may be required for moves early in the month. If you need packing services, those are usually scheduled for the day before your move.

Moving can be stressful, and juggling quotes from dozens of companies only adds to that. Our comprehensive rating system, combined with independent research and reporting related to the top West Palm Beach moving companies, means we've removed as much of that headache as possible. There are still some factors you should consider when making your decision, however, and your personal circumstances will help dictate your best option.

The most important one for many people is budget. A lot of the companies on this list fall in a similar ballpark range for hourly rates, but some are quite a bit more expensive than their peers. Consider the various additional fees that may come into play on top of hourly labor. You also want to go with a company that has been around for several years and carries a good reputation.

Availability is another factor. In speaking with the companies on this list, the summer season is clearly their busiest time of year. Some companies may not be able to accommodate a move on short notice, which is why we made it a point to call out those more likely to be able to help in an emergency. If your move date is flexible, this may not be as critical.

The best moving company in West Palm Beach overall is Patriot Moving & Storage. The company commands excellent review scores across Google and Yelp with hundreds of reviews logged. Their pricing is the most transparent as well, with reasonable hourly rates. If your main priority is cost-savings, stick with American's Family Moving & Storage.

Patriot Moving & Storage's employees are all full-time and many have been with the company for three to four years. They're only available locally in West Palm Beach and its surrounding areas, but you'll get professional movers who focus on quality. Patriot was quick to provide its hourly rates, and they do in-person estimates for every move to give you a customized final quote.

Most of the moving companies we spoke to in West Palm Beach required similar information for a quote, so it can help to have it all ready to make the quote process as smooth as possible.

Each moving company will likely ask whether you're moving from a home or an apartment, along with the number of bedrooms. It can also help to have the square footage for the starting home available. Some companies ask for an address for the starting location and destination, but often a zip code is all that's needed.

It's helpful to list large furniture pieces you have to move, as some companies use that in their calculations. Be sure to note any additional services you may require, such as storage or packing. Coming ready with an estimate of the number of boxes you'll need to move can help with the process as well.

Given the climate in West Palm Beach, you want to ensure you don't leave your belongings and boxes in areas where they'll be exposed to heat and humidity for long periods. Keep your boxes and belongings inside an air-conditioned home before your move, and always opt for climate-controlled storage when evaluating facilities, if possible. Mold growth can happen quickly, and climate control is the best way to avoid nasty surprises.

Condos and multi-level apartments often require you to reserve an elevator when moving in or out. Make sure to contact your building's management for details. If necessary, note the reserved time and coordinate with your movers to make sure you stay within that window.

No, you don't need a permit or license to move to or from West Palm Beach. The moving companies you work with, however, are required to be licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Tipping isn't ever required or even expected for movers like it is for waiters, but it is appreciated. If your movers went the extra mile and you want to show your appreciation, you should tip between 10% and 20% of the total moving cost. Tips can be left to individual movers, or you can tip a lump sum to be split up by the crew supervisor.

You can also say thank you in other ways, like offering cold drinks to your crew while they work.
